Texas Leaders

Stephen F. Austin-

Stephen F. Austin brought at least 300 settlers into Texas from Mexico to follow in his father’s footsteps. He is From Virginia and has a family back home.

Moses Austin-

Moses Austin was the father of Stephen F. Austin. Moses was granted the land for colonization reasons. Moses Died from disease on December 27 1836 but devoted the best years of his life to Texas.

Sam Houston-

Sam Houston was elected commander-in-chief of the Texas army. He led during the Alamo, Goliad, and the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1836 Houston defeated Santa Anna. He was also elected President of the Republic of Texas in that same year.

James Fannin-

James Fannin soldier born in North Carolina about 1800; died at Goliad, Texas, 27 March 1836o He was a captain in the Texan service in 1835, and on 28 October at the head of ninety men, with Captain Bowie, defeated a superior Mexican force near Bexar.,

David G. Burnett-

David G. Burnett was the temporary president of Texas during the revolution and he convinced a treaty with Santa Anna to end the war.

Lorenzo de Zavalla-

 Lorenzo de Zavalla was the Vice President of Texas during revolution.

William Travis-

William Travis was the commander of Texas troops at the Alamo. He died while he was there.

James Bowie-

James Bowie was the commander of Texas volunteers but got too sick to fight and died at the battle of the Alamo.
